Bob Carr on War Powers Reform

The former Minister for Foreign Affairs and NSW Premier Bob Carr has suggested that before Australia joins any future overseas war, there should be a debate in Parliament.

Speaking on a Q and A special on Afghanistan, Mr Carr said at the very least, the House of Representatives should debate going to war, before the decision is approved.

His view is a departure from the position of both Labor and the Coalition who have resisted all calls to give the Parliament more say on the issue.

In this excerpt from the program Mr Carr explains his suggestion for reform.
